IGST Export Refund

Why Your IGST Refund Gets Stuck

For goods exported on payment of IGST, there is no separate refund form — the shipping bill itself is the refund claim. But it moves only when every detail matches.

🚢 How the IGST export refund flows

Your refund travels from the GST portal to ICEGATE and then to your bank. One mismatch anywhere stops it.

  • 📄

    Shipping bill filed

Export invoice details, GSTIN and IGST amount declared to Customs.

  • ⚓

    EGM filed by carrier

Export General Manifest confirms the goods actually left India.

  • 📊

    GSTR-1 (Table 6A) & GSTR-3B

Export invoices reported and IGST paid in the return for that period.

  • 🔗

    Data sent to ICEGATE

GST portal shares invoice data; Customs validates it against the shipping bill.

  • 💰

    Refund to bank (PFMS)

Credited to the bank account registered with Customs (ICEGATE / PFMS validated).

FAQ

Refund Questions, Answered

Generally, a refund must be claimed within 2 years from the "relevant date" — for example, the date of export for goods, or the date of receipt of payment for exported services. For tax paid under the wrong head, the 2 years run from the date the correct tax was paid. Missing the deadline means losing the refund, so file early.
No. If goods are exported on payment of IGST, the shipping bill is treated as your refund application. The refund is processed by Customs through ICEGATE once the EGM is filed and your GSTR-1 (Table 6A) and GSTR-3B for that period are filed with matching details. RFD-01 is needed for exports under LUT, inverted duty, SEZ, excess cash and other refunds.
For zero-rated supplies (exports and SEZ supplies) and, from claims filed on or after 1 October 2025, inverted duty structure refunds, the GST system evaluates risk. Low-risk applications can get 90% of the claimed amount sanctioned provisionally (RFD-04) within 7 days of acknowledgement, with the balance settled in the final order. The officer may still choose detailed scrutiny in a particular case, and certain notified categories are not eligible.
Check the shipping bill status on ICEGATE. Common reasons are: EGM not filed, invoice number or IGST amount in GSTR-1 not matching the shipping bill, GSTIN mismatch, GSTR-3B not filed for the period, or bank account not validated on PFMS. Share your shipping bill numbers with us — we identify the error code and fix it through GSTR-1 amendment or Customs follow-up.
Yes. If the refund is not paid within 60 days from the date of receipt of a complete application, interest at 6% per annum is payable for the period of delay. A higher rate applies where the refund arises from an appellate or court order.
Upload them in the form above, or WhatsApp them to +91 73638 74223. Sales and purchase registers in Excel are welcome. For portal filing we coordinate OTP access with you on call — please never share passwords or OTPs on chat.
